    Breach - Jack (2013)

    Release Info

    Genre :: House
    Record Label :: dirtybird
    Catalog Number :: DB089

    Review
    Dirtybird Records, led by the house legend Claude Von Stroke and the immeasurably talented Justin Martin have a knack for delivering the smoothest deep house, which is sultry and smooth, and Breach have delivered the goods again with this beautiful track that has been featured on the likes of Pete Tong's Essential Selection and many other podcasts. Combining a simple vocal sample, this matches the robotic vocal with a deceptively simplistic melody.
    Todd Terje - Ragysh (2011)

    Release Info

    Genre :: House, Tech House, Disco
    Record Label :: Running Back
    Catalog Number :: RBCR-78

    Review
    Within the confines of the genre of deep house, it is easy for a great track or EP to go unnoticed, largely due to the prevalence of creativity and ingenuity amongst deep house producers which is not generally present amongst mainstream dance music. However Todd Terje, a veteran of the business, has produced a critically acclaimed and superbly constructed EP which is a throwback to the early days of house, replete with pulsating baselines and addictive hook lines and simplistic, yet invigorating melodies, that really demonstrate Terje's abilities as a producer and as an artist.

    The album World Citizen by M.I.K.E. has got to be my favourite trance album of 2013 so far. Most albums I listen to I usually only like a few songs, but this album I can truly and honestly say that this album is amazing. Every song on this album is fast-paced, energetic and bound to get you up and boogying like nothing else. I highly recommend you give this a listen because you will not want to press stop as soon as the music starts pumpin'.

    Dada Life - The Rules Of Dada (2012)

    Release Info

    Genre :: Progressive House, Electro, Tech House
    Record Label :: So Much Dada
    Catalog Number :: SO013

    Review
    For me, The Rules of Dada is just a great, fun album that represents everything I believe about electronic music. Dada Life avoided giving in to major label pressure and all that is often associated with the politics, but they were able to release the album and confidently/correctly say that ìWe have 100% complete freedom over everything ó down to the last line or note. [No one] had any say on anything, weíve done it the way we wanted.î This is something that these days has been lacking if you ask me. Artists have been stealing each others' music, they have been copying each others' sounds with the hope of becoming the next popular artist. This is clearly apparent with recent news articles such as Will.I.Am's plagiarism from Ajunabeats and is represented by recent comments by Wolfgang Gartner (http://i.imgur.com/0lMT8wk.jpg if you don't know what I am referring to). Looking for that next big drop is what is slowly killing the electronic dance music industry, and it's artists like Dada Life, whether you love them or hate them, who are staying true to the goals of music: personal expression. It's not supposed to be about being the next "Big Thing" but about expressing something new and different.

    This album starts off with what may be very familiar tracks such as "Kick Out The Epic Motherfucker" and "Feed the Dada." While these now are "old", they give you a taste of where Dada Life was. On the flipside of this though you are presented with a number of great tracks such as "Happy Violence" and "Rolling Stones T-Shirt" which showcase Dada Life's love for treating vocals like another instrument. Blending them in well and showing how vocals should be treated by more artists. Here, we are treated to them in their fullest form, fully integrated and considered.

    For many of you, this album may not be the best, it's not the type of album that you sit and listen to for hours on end from start to finish. It's the type of album that you have playing as a soundtrack to a great night. Full of fun, debauchery, and hedonism. Here, you mix the hard hitting electro with the calmer vocals. This is an energetic, and vibrant album. I promise you that this is a release you can enjoy and listen to in any mood, just expect to be up, active, and dancing to it. Enjoy!
    Paul Oakenfold - Essential Mix - Sunday, February 21, 1999 (1999)

    Release Info

    Genre :: Trance
    Record Label :: None
    Catalog Number :: N/A

    Review
    In mid-2005 my friends had begun getting into the rave scene. At first, I wasn't sure if it was something that would catch my interest, but one of my friends invited me to come chill with them, and listen to this essential mix from Paul Oakenfold. While Trance releases aren't my normal go-to genre, this release is one that I come back to time and time again whether it's been a long/bad day, a day where I have a ton to do, or just a day I want to dance. Throughout the mix, you will hear the feeling of the mix really start to change. It starts on the slower side, but starts to build into what myself and others I have met call Oakenfold's best mix we have ever heard. I hope that you enjoy this amazing mix as much as I have. It is a release you can dance to, cry to, work to, and so much more.

    TNGHT - TNGHT (2012)

    Release Info

    Genre :: Bass Music, Grime, Hip Hop
    Record Label :: Warp Records
    Catalog Number :: WAP337LMD

    Review
    Trap music is a relatively new genre, which at first can feel kind of naked. Often times the track are simpler than most EDM tracks, with less elements to the song itself. The genre is somewhat by disliked, and it does take a bit of getting used to.

    TNGHT EP is the album to listen to if you want to get into Trap. It's as simple as that. TNGHT were formed in 2012 by two artists join, hence "Hudson Mohawke x Lunice". They had some ties with Kanye West and have gotten a following over the past year. This is their full release, and the EP is trap at it's finest.

    Between crazy samples, beats, huge bass, one hopes that they can listen to this through VERY big speakers. Perfect for head banging too, the EP's 5 tracks all have different feels to them, and they join to make a ridiculous party of energy. The EP feels slightly similar to Baaur's "Harlem Shake", who is another member of the trap genre - but longer, harder, better, and stronger. This EP isn't something to make a viral video out of, it's something to party too. Loudly.

    In closing, all I want to say is - if you're looking for some BANGERS, you've found them.
    Trentemøller - The Last Resort (2006)

    Release Info

    Genre :: Trip Hop, Techno, IDM, Post Rock, Tech House, Ambient, Minimal
    Record Label :: Poker Flat Recordings
    Catalog Number :: PFRCD18

    Review
    I first discovered Trentemøller through a remix done by an artist called Cubism, and I decided to check out Trentemøller because the remix was really well done. In the end, I came across this album, and my god, what a find. Trentemøller won 2006's Essential Mix Of The Year, and I'm sure it was well deserved. "The Last Resort" is the type of album which brings you to another place, and Trentemøller's distant beats and melodies which seem to jump in and out of focus contribute to an overall atmosphere of some sort of alien planet.

    Despite the album's distance from a lot of modern music today, Trentemøller some how manages to fit in groovy beats which are dance able, pop-like, and very catchy. You will find yourself tapping your foot while being thoroughly enthralled by the world this album creates. The individual tracks themselves are each memorable in their own right; The opening track of the album has an amazing build-up which serves as a great introduction into this world on the edge of perception. The final track, "Miss You", is a melodic track that is simple and yet incredibly complicated and intricate. At heart, it is just a repetitive melody, but, on the outside, it is full of detail.

    "The Last Resort" is a collection of tracks which bring you into another world, and, in my opinion, it's a world which you won't want to leave.

    4x4=12 is Deadmau5's fist attempt at the dubstep genre, mixing it with his famous house beats. The song Raise your wapon has an awsome drop and features the vocals of Greta Svabo Bech. An overgood alblum that will blow your mind.

    Release Info

    Genre :: Progressive House, Progressive Trance
    Record Label :: Arrival
    Catalog Number :: ARR041

    Review
    I love when songs are able to showcase both progressive.house and trance sounds and this single does exactly that. The title The Way We Were perfectly describes the mellow, reminiscent feelings I get when playing this through.

    Toby Hedges brings out the full potential of the track with his remix. It has a soft progressive.house sound that still stays true to the beauty of the original mix. This song is wonderful [IMG]

    Boys Noize - Out Of The Black (2012)

    Release Info

    Genre :: Electro, Techno, Acid, Hip Hop
    Record Label :: Boysnoize Records
    Catalog Number :: BNRCD016

    Review
    This is what you want, this is what you get," are the opening lines of "Out of the Black." Like a mind reader Boys Noize knows exactly what we want and gives us just that throughout the album.

    "Out of the Black" is an absolute gem. The album, as are all of Boys Noize's, is heavily influenced by the trademark Ed Banger/French style of electronic music, think Justice's "Cross," but with his own twist.

    Every track is as raw, and hard-edged as the last, a truly fantastic addition to the Boys Noize repertoire. This album is fun and will have you wanting more. Check it out!!
