    Point System v0.2

Hello everyone, we apologize for this delay in posting updates. But we are happy to announce that Point System v0.2 is implemented and working. This revised edition of the point system has significant improvements over previous one. The current seed based points award system being completely within the tracker software Ocelot, it is now more accurate in point distribution/deduction. Specifics are written in detail in the points page & also an FAQ is put together in this wiki.

The parameters ruling the earlier system was determined by considering the stats of database at that time. Userbase was way too low in activity and average snatch count of active users were also lesser. So, when we got caught up in the situation for creating this point system as a necessity, we thought of some basic functions in a hurry such as the 'equivalent seed day' parameter which counted only up to 700 snatches, 'partial seed steps' which was split in only 5 steps, the parameter of 'torrent size' which flooded the point bank of mass seeders in an abnormal way etc. In the earlier system, a user whose snatch count was 1500, if he only seeded 1/3 of his torrents, he would get away well with rest 2/3 unseeded because he would be earning more than enough points for leeching daily stuff. And as the 'equivalent seed days' only validated counts up to 700 snatches, it won't matter much to him. As a result, the peer in site stat began to fall in a drastic manner. Then the site stat changed sharply over the last 6 months making things even worse every day. So, even though it helped us way better than ratio system, it won't be too wrong to say that, the point system up until a few weeks ago, was not suitable for current stat of database. And that's why we had to fix some parameters, but this time we didn't just add/change/modify something. We considered what's going to happen in upcoming future and took what we learnt from the past, then we started from scratch and created the whole thing again.

In our last announcement it was mentioned that possibly we won't be carrying the parameter of 'number of seeding torrents', but we didn't do that and it's still there, with a huge difference though. We got rid of old complex-to-calculate-system and created this system such a way that users can fluently calculate the earning/deduction. We made the deduction globally equal for all users, as 1 Point deduction per 10 MB download. A new parameter, 'percentage seeding' plays major role in this revised version. The idea is to award base points depending upon what percentage of snatched torrents a user is seeding. And for seeding lots of torrents, additional points are awarded as well. Now, if a user seeds less than his snatched, he not only won't earn the additional points, but also he will receive less than his base points. Please refer to the sample calculations in the points page.

In previous announcement we also posted that, uploader class will be made free of points restriction. Unfortunately that hasn't been done yet. We took that decision with respect to the previous points system then but lots of things came to our attention and changed since we began to work on the system from scratch. But that doesn't mean we are not considering this. Also, we will be organizing our userclass soon and quite a few things will be rearranged. About these, we will keep everyone posted.

Another thing on which we want the attention of everyone is that, some of the rules are being defied quite often. The only reason we haven't banished those is because we are a peaceful community and they often claim that they were not aware of the rules. So let us rephrase those rules in short here. Users are not allowed to share contents of our torrents elsewhere, whether or not the uploader mentions this in his upload. Ripping from a CD-R/CD-RW is strictly prohibited. And under no circumstance users are allowed to edit the rip log. It should be newcomer's as well as a regular member's obligation to read and understand the rules of any community. We've already dealt with enough of these cases but no more. From now on we will be taking drastic measures for any of these rule violations. We request everyone to be upright and trustworthy. Keeping the library clean, organized and as healthy as possible has always been our topmost priority but it's very hard for us to do so without the aid of our fellow members. Consider DCD as your place, consider this your home. Please don't be the reason of anything that is going to harm your place. Respect the hard work & wishes of uploaders because they are the reason we exist and in case you've done something wrong & we ask about it, at least show the decency to confess so that we can clean thnigs up.

That's it for this announcement. There are some other stuff of which everyone should be informed about. Those are posted in the discussion thread of this news post. Feel free to discuss and ask questions regarding topics of this announcement there.

    Happy Holi.
