IdleQuest is back!

IdleQuest III will begin this Saturday (22nd) at 10 pm GMT.

What is IdleQuest?

IdleQuest is a simple IRC-based role playing game, played simply by idling in an IRC
channel. The longer you idle, the higher you progress. Actions like talking in the channel,
parting the channel, or quitting IRC are penalties and increase the amount of time to
your level. Along the way you may be helped (or hurt) by various random events that can
greatly affect your times. In order to do well, you must only sit back and watch!

Tournaments!

IdleQuest III has a host of code improvements. The most notible improvement is the
addition of tournaments!

Tournaments occur every 12 hours, grouped by level tier. A number of people are
selected from each tier are pitted against each other in one on one battles until only one
winner stands.

The winner has between 5 and 75 percent of the time to their next level removed; the
runner-up also receives a small 5-10% bonus, while the lowest roll in the tournament
receives a small penalty.

Quarterly resets

Like IdleQuest II, IdleQuest III will last all year. However, this time around we will reset
the standings every 3 months. The standings will be frozen and archived and everyone
will be reset to zero. Basically, we will have four sessions this year, all approximately 3
months long. This should keep things interesting all year long.

Rewards

The winner (perhaps the top three, it has not been finalized) will receive a cool badge
next to their name, right where a donor star or a folding icon would go. The badges will
retroactively be awarded to the winners of IdleQuest I and II as well. Be patient,
however, since the code which will allow this is currently in development.

Awesome! So how do I play?

1) Simply boot your favorite IRC client and join #idlequest on irc.underground-gamer.com.
2) Once you have joined the channel, simply send the command:
/msg IdleQuest register
and follow the simple instructions to create your account.
3) That's it! Now you can site back and watch as your character progresses and competes
head-to-head with players in the standings!

A big thanks goes out to [uname=Stolas] for going through the game's code, fixing any
lingering bugs, and adding great new features like Tournaments. Without his help, there
