EAC Logchecker Changes 1 day, 2 hours ago
After consultation with the Delta Team, TorrentMasters and Elites, we would like to announce some changes to our EAC logchecker.

On the 23rd of September the logchecker will be upgraded, and the requirements for all future uploaded logs changed. Anything uploaded prior to this date will retain its current score, and no perfect FLACs will be downgraded.

    The Changes:

Null Samples will now be required for CRC calculation; a log without Null Samples will have 1 point deducted from its score. The next version of EAC (1.0b3) will not have an option to ignore Null Samples in CRC calculation. This, combined with the deduction for logs using an EAC version below 1.0, justifies demanding this somewhat trivial feature. The benefit is that a digitally silent track ripped without null samples counted will not even display a CRC in the log. When null samples are used the CRC displays 00000000.

Rips made with 0.95 or 0.99 will have 1 point deducted from their log score. In order for us to demand the Checksum that appeared in 1.0, we will also have to require the use of EAC 1.0 for all future rips. Anything ripped with 0.95 or 0.99 that is uploaded after the deadline will not receive a deduction for lacking the checksum, but will instead receive a deduction for being ripped with an EAC version below 1.0.

AccurateRip must be enabled. Rips made without AccurateRip enabled will have 10 points deducted from their log score. Having AccurateRip enabled allows us to ensure that logs are done with the correct read offset, as well as further populating the AR database.

*Staff Note: Rips made with EAC 0.95 will not receive a deduction for this, instead only receiving the -1 point deduction for using an EAC version below 1.0. This is because there wasn't an option for Accurate Rip prior to 0.95pb5.

Log Checksum must be enabled. EAC 1.0 Rips made without the Log Checksum enabled will have 1 point deducted from their log score. Having the Log Checksum enabled provides another method to verify the Log as being authentic*. This also means that we will no longer allow users to edit out personal info from their logs and still retain a 100% score; if you wish to change the rip path, you will need to re-rip the disc(s).

*Staff Note: The Log Checksum should not be considered certifiable proof that a log has not been edited. A checksum can always be forged, and while it may not provide 100% certainty that a log is untouched, a checksum which "fails" does confirm that an edit of some sort has been made, so to utilize this tool is of more benefit than the alternative.

    Upgrading:

For those who are required to upgrade their version of EAC as a result of this change, we would like to recommend this guide. For anyone who would like additional help, we recommend either sending a PM to the FLS via the staff inbox or visiting #what.cd-help on our IRC network.

    Trumping Reminder:

Any deduction which does not affect audio data now receives a 1 point deduction and a note in the deduction sentence stating that audio data was not affected. A rip which only has non-audio deductions is allowed to trump another rip with audio-affected deductions. In other words, a 99% EAC v0.95 rip is still allowed to trump a 70% rip with a CRC mismatch. The only thing that can trump a rip with non-audio deductions is a perfect 100% FLAC rip.

We would like to offer our thanks to everyone involved with this change including the Delta Team, the TorrentMasters and Elites who responded and PunkMeUp for his guidance and advice. Thanks also to caaok for the up-to-date EAC guide.

MARIENBAD: A potentially confusing sentence has caused some people to believe that XLD logs will no longer score 100%. To clarify, nothing here affects XLD log scoring at all. The sentence has been removed.
