AlphaReign: Alternative To The Pirate Bay (TPB), ExtraTorrent And Dead KickassTorrents (KAT)

Whenever a torrent website goes down, we see mirrors, proxies, clones, and replacements that come up in its place. However, most such clones and mirrors are just duplicates and money making schemes and die a natural death. A new torrent website called AlphaReign.se now seeks to change the entire torrent paradigm with closed private torrent search.

AlphaReign searches other sites for the best torrents and then delivers them straight to you if you are a member. This means that you get the best torrent first for faster downloading. The site also allows users to find torrents collected from BitTorrent’s ‘trackerless’ Distributed Hash Table (DTH) for the sake of better security measures that will benefit both the users and the website.

AlphaReign is a torrent search engine by function so the similarity with Torrentz is easily visible. However, to try the site, you need to accept an invite link to create the account and gain access. According to TorrentFreak, the private tracker can be accessed as its operator, identified as Prefinem, makes the invite link available to the public.

So, why do you need invite link to join in? “The main reason is that if we have a login, we can keep torrents from being indexed by search engines and thus DMCA’d much less frequently. We can also block abusive users,” AlphaReign’s Prefinem tells TorrentFreak in obvious reference to the surge of DMCA takedown requests that file-sharing sites normally get.

“While it does create a barrier to entry, we feel the increased control will help us last longer than traditional torrent search engines,” he adds.
Clearly, Prefinem is convinced that the login barrier for AlphaReign’s operational model will serve as a form of protection.

Currently, AlphaReign counts nearly six million of public torrents indexed on the site with the membership continuously growing. “This is a long-term goal, but one I believe is necessary for torrents to stay alive,” Prefinem explains.

Prefinem hopes to increase AlphaReign with new software that allows users to search the DHT network on their own devices, with help from peers. Such a system would remain online, even if the website itself goes down.

“Think of it as like a Tor node, that passes DHT queries in-between all the nodes and each node runs an independent search engine that can be queried by anyone,” he says.

It will be exciting to see how a private DHT search engine will perform in the long run and would it prove to be tougher than what have been seen in other torrent operations.
