Russian Cinema Week - Andrei Tarkovsky and Sergei M. Eisenstein

We're dedicating this week to two of the greatest Russian masters of cinema:

Andrei Arsenyevich Tarkovsky (April 4, 1932 - December 29, 1986) was a Soviet and Russian filmmaker, writer, film editor, film theorist and opera director. Tarkovsky's films include Andrei Rublev, Solaris, The Mirror, and Stalker. He directed the first five of his seven feature films in the Soviet Union; his last two films were produced in Italy and Sweden. They are characterized by spirituality and metaphysical themes, extremely long takes, lack of conventional dramatic structure and plot, and memorable cinematography.

Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein (January 23, 1898 – February 11, 1948) was a revolutionary Soviet Russian film director and film theorist noted in particular for his silent films Strike, Battleship Potemkin and October, as well as historical epics Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible. His work vastly influenced early filmmakers owing to his innovative use of and writings about montage.
