Happy sixth birthday, AB ♥

Yesterday marked AnimeBytes' sixth anniversary!

It's been a busy year and a lot's happened! You, the community, have been as active as ever and during this time, you've helped upload 45,000 new torrents, made nearly 200,000 forum posts and spammed an incalculable number of messages in our many active IRC channels. We hit a huge milestone in March this year when we reached 100,000 torrent uploads (twice...) and that means we've now got over 180TBs worth of data being distributed on the tracker spread across 5 million files. We have our invaluable uploaders to thank for these impressive stats and we sincerely appreciate all the hard work you've put into helping the site.

In the past twelve months, we've seen the addition to our staff team of aldy as a Moderator and the expansion of our Developer team with nikkun and synapse. Along with these past additions, we'd like to take this opportunity to welcome captain to our dev team! Many of you will have seen him running IDC and assisting with Games, so be sure to give him a warm welcome to our staff team and we're looking forward to what else he can add to the site. We've also seen our community staff team growing with our new App Reviewer class who have processed almost 3,000 applications in the past two months and some reshuffling of our Forum Staff team to assist in forum moderation. Thanks as always to these dedicated users for going above and beyond what's expected of them.

We've had a couple of successful contests too, most recently with our AnimeBytes Top 50 Anime Collage #4 and we're happy to finally be able to announce the results~ This year's collage was incredibly successful with five times as many people participating as any previous year and over 7900 votes in total. With more voters came a lot more variation in the results and there were 802 distinct anime voted for (probably; the votes haven't been as thoroughly checked for duplicates as in the past due to the sheer quantity of them) with first place getting over six times as many votes as last year's first place. In the past, as few as six votes were required to place in the top 50 but this time around the lowest ranked anime in the collage got 39. We have anime247, daigunzan and ZettZu to thank for helping count the results and so without further ado...

Most recently - and perhaps our biggest change to the site in the past year - we've seen the testing of airing anime torrents. We're pleased to announce that this test run has helped us iron out some bugs and that a complete rollout is on track to be implemented in time for the next anime season so look forward to that!

The past few weeks have also seen the implementation of Delicious stylesheets as official stylesheets! Designed by aldy last year, these have been run as a community project up until now with the source code available on Github and significant contributions by 10d, Alpha, Leamas, meimei, noise and Zeroxv. Hundreds of users have previously used the externally-hosted ones but now it's possible to pick them in your profile settings. Here's a sneak peak for those interested in them:
