Mid September Update

We have quite a few announcements for you today!


-First and foremost, “passthepopcorn” on twitter is NOT US. This is a pathetic attempt to bring more bad publicity to this site. The best thing to do is to unsubscribe from this twitter feed, and give it zero attention. Any and all communication from the staff to the users will happen on the site news or the forum announcements. In the case of an emergency, we keep IRC on a separate server so you may check for announcements there. (For example, IRC was up the entire duration of our last downtime.) In the case of an extreme emergency, we will post a coded message on the blog.



-We have a donations update for you! As of now, we have reached $455 in donations for the month of September. A huge thank you to everyone who has donated thus far! For now, overages will cover costs for the month of August, which were not covered by donations. Once this has been taken care of, we will announce a plan for any and all overages.



-Staff has been noticing an increase in the number of people not following some basic rules. Please let me remind you that we do not tolerate offering invites on forums outside of Power User + forums on approved trackers. More information is available directly on the invite page, so there is no excuse for not following this rule. We also do not allow users to browse the page via proxy. The penalty for either offense is disablement. These are not new policies. They are being enforced just as they always have. You have been warned.



-Staff is currently undergoing an upload rules overhaul. We will be clearly spelling out what trumps what, what is allowed to coexist, etc. No more unwritten rules! We will also be implementing a Hit and Run (HnR) policy and automated system. We will give you ample warning on this before it is implemented, and this is the first of these warnings. More details to come in the next few weeks.



-Developers are currently working on a couple of internal features for staff. (HnR system, Watchlist) We understand your frustration with site bugs, we are frustrated as well. Bugs are considered top priority, we will be cleaning up the bug forum in order to make it easier to confirm and keep track of bugs for our developers.



-And now for some good news! We have decided to use the blog to feature your reviews of movies! We are incorporating this with the film club. The way it will work is simple: you write reviews, and submit them to BOTH esophagus and lovelyrita via PM. The best movie review each week will be featured on the blog, and will also become the film club movie for that week, earning it half leech and a spot on the PTP homepage! We hope you are as excited about this as we are, we believe it is a great chance for you cinephiles to get your favorite movies both reviewed AND featured by the film club! Anyone is allowed to participate, the best review each week as judged by esophagus and lovelyrita will win. More details are posted here.
