Waffles Staff Picks - April Edition

Welcome to the April edition of the Waffles.fm Staff Picks. Please remember we do not look to balance genres or purposely seek out diversity - these are simply albums by bands that we love, and hope that you find something you enjoy as well. Note that each pick may be an individual track, or an entire album (for the purpose of the theme). In every case, however, the entire album will be FL.

    Theme: Dismay

    condon313

    Artist: The Body
    Album: I Shall Die here

If you like doom or sludge metal, you should give The Body a listen. The vocals are shrill, the pace is hopeless; it's like some bodies in a mass grave started making music.

Bonus thought: the physical copy of this record comes with a giant poster that reads I SHALL DIE HERE. It's hanging up in my office, the location where I bask in dismay the most.

    lostsupper

    Artist: Slick Rick
Album: The Great Adventures of Slick Rick
Track: Treat Her like a Prostitute

"...next thing you know the ho starts to ill--She says 'I love you Harold,' and your name is Will!"

    izmo

    Artist: Fields
Song: "If You Fail, We All Fail"

    Sowilo

    Artist: Sol Invictus
    Album: In the Rain

Haunting, gloomy songs of broken promises, lost love, murder and betrayal, by English songwriter and musician Tony Wakeford and his band Sol Invictus. In his own words, "Sol’s music is a place where punk collides with chamber music, and industrial noises chitchat with folk tunes."

    Woodenhead

    Artist: Jesu
    Album: Conqueror

Dismay? First artist I thought of was Jesu. Enough said. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then listen to this.

    MidniteRockr

    Artist: Songs: Ohia
    Album: Axxess & Ace

Poor Jason Molina shares thoughts on his tortured life. A Masterpiece. RIP Jason.

    icebox

    Artist: The Wedding Present
    Album: George Best
    Song: My Favourite Dress

David Gedge is the poet laureate of bad releationships, failed love, and the emotions surrounding unfaithfulness and unreasonable behavior. My Favourite Dress is a great track of dismay, as it gets that surprising quality of the discovery of unfaithfulness down so well.

    Lorentz

    Artist: Delgados
    Album: Universal Audio
