    Official logchecker changes announcement! (finally.)

As many of you know, the logchecker has undergone some scoring changes. First off, though, we would like to apologize for the length of time some of these changes have been in place without explanation. The roll-out was poorly executed, and we hope that this announcement is not too little too late. We doubly apologize for the changes even needing to take place; these were flaws in our logchecker that should have been addressed long ago, and we accept full responsibility for any frustration this causes the userbase.

Without further ado, a summary of the scoring changes:

    XLD:
-All XLD versions predating version 2010/01/23: Gap detection is not properly indicated anywhere in these logs. They do exist in the .cue file, but there is no actual documentation of what was done with them (appended, dropped, etc.). As such, we cannot verify with confidence that any pre-20100123 XLD logs have proper gap detection/appendment, and we have thus deducted 20 points for these.
-XLD versions from 2010/01/23 up until 2010/07/04 (not including 07/04): AccurateRip, if used, is documented in these logs, and when there are gaps documented as well as AccurateRip results, we can be sure that gaps were properly detected/appended (and thus score 100%). However, all XLD logs from this time period always included the track 1 pre-gap, so if there is no pre-gaps from track 2 on, we cannot be confident that gaps were detected. AccurateRip enabled but no post-track 1 pre-gap will result in a 1 point deduction, even though the disc itself may not legitimately have gaps after track 1. If There is no mention of AccurateRip, we will deduct 20 points, as we once again cannot verify anything that was done with the gaps.
-XLD versions from 2010/07/04 on: There is finally documentation of what was done with gaps. If gaps are properly set to detect/append, these will score 100% without any problem. If not, we will deduct points appropriately.
-New versions of XLD have an option to skip 'hidden track one audio', which we haven't added support for yet. The 20 point deduction it currently receives will likely be changed soon.

These apply to all XLD versions:
-No 'Inconsistency in error sectors' info: -5 points
-No 'Scan ReplayGain' info: -1 point - This is mostly due to the absence of peak values in the logs, which are useful in determining specific editions of albums. We'd also like to apologise for having recommended the opposite in the various tutorials we provide.

    EAC:
EAC v0.95: Yes, we have decided to dock all 0.95 logs 1 point, a retroactive change that will affect all v0.95 logs. They do not include info about whether the gaps were appended to the previous track (we can determine if they were detected, but not if they were appended necessarily). Other pertinent info regarding null samples, AccurateRip usage, or a Table of Contents are not included, either, and while null samples can be determined through some roundabout steps, the fact that this info is not included makes this a moderation issue as well. Even though there is nothing inherently wrong with v0.95 rips and could very well be perfect, we find there to be a slight level of uncertainty that can be eliminated with the use of V0.99 (preferably prebeta 4 or later).

ID3 Tags: The use of ID3 tags will no longer receive a 5 point deduction. This is more of a 'tag trump' as it has no effect on the quality of the rip itself.

    EAC v0.99:
-Gaps not detected, appended to each track: -1 point (was -20 points). 1 point deductions will be explained below.
-C2 pointers used WITH 2+ AccurateRip confidence on each track: This will only boost log scores to 97% instead of 100% now.
-Does not use null samples: -1 point

    Manual score boosts:
-Range rip, Test & Copy enabled, WITH 2+ AccurateRip confidence for each track: boost to 99% (instead of 100%). These logs are missing things like gap documentation and peak values, so we have opted not to boost these to 100%.
-If original log does not contain 2+ AR confidence for each track, but a CueTools log included in the torrent does show 2+ AR confidence, and no other deductions exist on the log other than the ones listed below:
--1) Does not defeat audio cache: boost to 100%
--2) Ripped in Burst mode: boost to 100%
    --3) Uses C2 pointers: boost to 97%

    Trumping Change
One of the other major changes here is that some EAC deductions are for things which do not actually affect the audio data that is being ripped. As such, any deduction which does not affect audio data now receives a 1 point deduction and a note in the deduction sentence stating that audio data was not affected. A rip which only has non-audio deductions is allowed to trump another rip with audio-affected deductions. In other words, a 99% EAC v0.95 rip is still allowed to trump a 70% rip with a CRC mismatch. The only thing that can trump a rip with non-audio deductions is a perfect 100% FLAC rip.

    Grace Period
Effective immediately, every user will have a grace period of one month to trump their own torrents that have had their scores reduced. For this month-long grace period, you may not trump others' torrents that have been affected by these new logchecker changes, only your own. After this month is up, we will open trumping to all users.

We will also be providing some new tutorials to help people correctly set up EAC and XLD to get 100% logs with the new logchecker.

    Thanks guys,
