    Regarding partially downloaded torrents

    ( by m* )

While partial downloads and cherry-pickings are allowed on the site, they are at the same time discouraged. This is mainly caused by an intrinsic weakness of the bittorrent protocol, which reports partially completed torrents as leechers, even when on the client side the torrent is shown as 100% complete.

This weakness works very badly for a site like Pedro for the following two main reasons:

    - The partially downloaded torrent, while showing as 100% complete on the client, in reality it is still seen by the tracker as downloading, since it can't seed to 100% of the torrent, thus occupying a download slot, and possibly triggering all sort of warnings from the site.

    - This is the most important reason! Many members have their clients setup in a way that starts seeding a torrent only when a leecher shows up. This way the torrent longevity is guaranteed, while at the same time the seeders don't advertise what torrents they have downloaded by constantly seeding them. However, once a partial downloader shows as leecher for a extended period of time, many seeders stop the torrent to avoid been shown as seeders, or just because they are plain simply annoyed by it. Needless to say, this scenario does not help the health and the longevity of the torrent swarm.

For the above-mentioned reasons, together with the fact that Pedro has very little use for partially-downloaded torrents, we kindly request all partial downloaders to either complete the torrents or stop them in their torrent client altogether. The mods may act on a case-by-case basis by sending PMs to the partial downloaders, or park their accounts in the worst case scenario. Partial downloaders should stop leeching a new torrent 1 or 2 days after it has been uploaded.

    The Mod Team.
