    Rule changes for Journals
    Rule changes for Journals

Since going live, we have realized that our journal rules are resulting in inconsistencies and overall messiness in the Journal section. As a result of this we have revised the rules for this section (and some minor rule changes for other categories.) The net result of these changes is to bring journals more in line with the rules for magazines and newspapers.

Additionally, we have noticed a problem with issue being uploaded as multiple pdfs of a few pages each in a folder. This will no longer be allowed and parted pdfs will need to be joined into a single file in order to be uploaded.

Lastly, not related to journals, we have clarified the rule that for all categories, a "scene" upload does not meet the standard of "retail."

    Actual Rule Changes

(added rules in italics, removed text in strikethrough)

1.1.2 Archived files in uploads are not allowed. (e.g., .rar, .zip, .tar). All archives must be unpacked before upload. ISO files are allowed in specific circumstances, details below

1.1.14 Each issue, edition, book or manual may not be separated into more than one file (.pdf, .epub, etc)

1.3.1.a Scene releases marked as "retail" do not meet STP's standard for retail and accordingly, Scene torrents may not be flagged retail and retail torrents may not be flagged Scene.

2.1.8 Magazines that have been archived in ISO format are allowed to co-exist with regular uploads and will not be subject to trumping.

3.1.5 Newspapers that have been archived in ISO format are allowed to co-exist with regular uploads and will not be subject to trumping.

5.1.2 Packs must contain consecutive issues of a journal rather than a random assortment. Such packs should be packaged by release cycle (e.g., yearly, by volume), or by full publication run of the journal. A more complete pack trumps a less complete pack. A journal pack is considered more complete if it contains all of the issues found in the lesser one.
5.1.2.a Packs trump single issues. Once a yearly, volume, or full publication run of a journal has been submitted as a pack, torrents of single issues included in that release cycle will be removed and may not be uploaded again.
5.1.3 Torrent title must include the title of the Journal, date of issue and file format [in brackets].
5.1.4 Descriptions must include: ISBN (if appropriate) and an informational description of the work. Optionally, a link to the Wikipedia, LibraryThing, Google Books, Amazon, or any other information page for the work may be included. Your own opinion or summary of the content is also appreciated, though not required.

5.1.2 Yearly and decade journal packs are allowed. A yearly pack is permitted if it covers an entire year's (e.g., 2010) worth of issues. A decade pack is permitted if it covers an decade's (e.g., 1990-99) worth of issues.
5.1.2.a Yearly packs may only cover a calendar year and not any other 12 month period.
5.1.2.b If a journal is published by Volume and Issue instead of a date, then a pack containing an entire volume may be uploaded instead of a Year pack.
5.1.2.c Decade packs may only cover the ten year period running from XXY0 - XXY9. If a journal began or ceased publication during that decade, the pack should be shortened as appropriate and notated in the description the year publication began/ended.
5.1.2.d Every effort should be made to retain description, image and table of contents information for the individual issues in the pack.
5.1.3 Incomplete packs are allowed as long as no more than 15% (rounded down) of the pack is missing. For a journal that is published monthly, that means only 1 issue can be missing from a yearly pack and 18 issues from a decade pack. An incomplete pack is trumpable by a full pack. An incomplete pack must be marked as incomplete by using the checkbox for an incomplete pack upon upload.
5.1.4 Full run packs are generally not allowed. Exceptions are made on a case by case basis when a retail pack is available. Generally the journal must have completed its run and be out of print, and be available commercially as a full run product. ALL full run packs must have staff approval prior to upload.
5.1.5 Packs trump single issues. Once a full-year journal pack has been uploaded, single issues from that year will be deleted and may not be uploaded again. Once a decade journal pack has been uploaded, individual years from that decade will be deleted and may not be uploaded again.
5.1.6 Additional materials may be included. Certain journals come with an extra CD or DVD. If it contains material relevant to your upload it may be included as an image file (.iso) in the same torrent.
5.1.7 Table of Contents information is not required, but is strongly encouraged.
5.1.8 Journals that have been archived in ISO format are allowed to co-exist with regular uploads and will not be subject to trumping.
