Rules Update


As the title suggests, we've updated BTN's Rules. The first you'll probably notice is a new page listing all of our Invite Rules in one place. Although many of the other changes are merely cosmetic, there are a few important rules that have been added or formalized:

• Under no circumstances are you allowed to use public proxies/VPNs to browse the site. You must send a Staff PM if you wish to request permission to use a private proxy/VPN. For a VPN/proxy to be considered private, it must offer a dedicated IP and you must be the only person with access to that IP. In most cases, shared seedbox slots do not offer a dedicated IP.

We've been enforcing this rule for a while now, adding it to the Rules is merely a formalization.

• Requesting invites in any forum is strictly prohibited. If somebody is offering invites you may PM them and request consideration.

Like the previous rule, this isn't new. It should be common sense that requesting invites without discretion is a bad idea. Although most users understand that inviters should trust their invitees, many don't realize the invitee should only accept invites from people they trust.

• On the forums, a spoiler is defined as discussing plot points from any episode. Spoilers are only allowed in the Spoilers subforum.
• On IRC, a spoiler is defined as discussing plot points from an episode that aired less than one week ago. Spoilers are only permitted in #BTN-Spoilers. Spoiling to intentionally ruin another member's viewing experience is prohibited regardless of when the episode aired.

As a community united by a common love of TV, BTN is diametrically opposed to anything that might ruin the viewing experience of our members. On the other hand, we understand that part of the joy in TV is discussing the episodes afterwards. Our hope is that confining spoilers to dedicated subforums and channels will allow users avoid or participate in discussion according to their individual preference.
