March Theme: Madness​

Vitz:

Shining - The Madness And The Damage Done: Long-rising chaos that eventually stalls in a minute-long storm of noise makes for an utterly demented piece of music.

Woody:

Monster Magnet - Spine of God: This title track is written as Charles Manson. "I sold a hundred hits to a hundred heads / That will never come back / You know what I mean" The song starts with lyrics like "I just had to gas a pig last night" (remember what was scrawled on the wall in the Tate murders), "Sadie Atkins is just a withered old hag now", and ends with, gently sung: "I love everyone". I'm not sure how much more famously crazy you can get than ol' Charlie.

One of my fave albums ever - being stoned while listening is recommended.

Okkervil River - The War Criminal Rises and Speaks: A breathtaking insight into cruelty, madness and the human spirit. Like all okkervil river songs, it's also a treat to play on guitar. lyrics here

Mates of State - Ha Ha: All over the place musically and lyrically, but whether or not there was a method to the madness, it resulted in a perfect pop song.

Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized: "What are you trying to say...I'm crazy? When I went to your schools, your churches, your institutional learning facilities--so how can you say I'm crazy?"

The Police - Mother: This was one of the first Cd's I ever bought, and it came in one of those longboxes which was pretty awesome. I totally related to the insanity on the track 'Mother' where Sting sounded like he was going mad, and had to hear it over and over again. Enjoy!

Wise Blood - I Think I'm Losing My Mind: It's that song you put on in the car after a long, hard night of drunken regrets - either to wallow in it, or roll down the windows, drive a little faster and scream along, while passing cars look at you like you're insane. And, maybe you are.

Muse - Madness: Easy choice, I think. I didn't like it at first, but it's grown quite heavily on me.

Decapitated - Spheres Of Madness: 'Cause sometimes when you're feeling a little crazy yourself, a bit of heavy music is the best stress relief you can get. This tune is a Grade A headbanger.
