The Future of Invites

Earlier this year we made some changes to invite distribution. Members who participated in the discussion about invites had many good ideas about how we could sell them, and over the past few months we've tried a traditional auction and a Dutch auction. However, there are issues with the auction system: auctions limit the availability of invites and give us less control over the selling price.

Invites are a special commodity, arguably more valuable than even seedboxes. We want to sell them in a unique way that reflects how important they are. To accomplish this, we are creating a third BTN currency: amperes. Amperes will be purchasable in the Lumens Store for 1200 lumens each. This will be the last currency that BTN ever adds, and there will be a separate Amperes Store. After the current invite auction ends, invites will only be available for purchase in the Amperes Store. The introductory price of an invite will be 100 amperes, though the price may be increased based on demand.

We hope this change will give invites the special status that we believe they deserve. Furthermore, we expect that the high cost will lead to more long-term seeding and request filling, both of which will benefit the site.
