Benny Sings - ART

Benny Sings is a Dutch artist that started off in the hip-hop circuit but over the course of four albums moved to unabashed pop. Stylistically, this stuff pretty hard to pin down. Benny himself mentions Todd Rundgren, Phil Collins, Phoenix, Michael Jackson and particularly Christopher Cross's 'Sailing' as influences in this Dutch interview. Steely Dan can be added to that list because of their shared obsession with sound and detail.

'Big Brown Eyes' has been my favorite song of the year so far. It's accompanied by nine other tracks that are mostly great. 'ART' has been criminally ignored. I hope all of that's about to change by making it this week's musicologist's pick!
