Brilliance Audio Enters Print and E-book Market with New Imprint Another
audiobook publisher is getting into the print and e-book business.

Brilliance Audio will begin publishing hardcover, trade paperbacks and e-book originals next year under the Grand Harbor Press imprint. Grand Harbor will focus on self-help and inspirational categories and will plans to release 10 titles in its first year. First book to be published under the imprint will be Happy This Year! by Will Bowen set for release April 9. An app to accompany the title will be released early next year. Brilliance, a division of Amazon, described Happy This Year as a “practical yet inspirational work that proposes it’s the inner world of our psyches that determines happiness, not outside forces.” “People are searching for different perspectives on finding happiness, especially at a time when one hears so much about political and economic turmoil,” said Mark Pereira, president and publisher, Brilliance. “Grand Harbor Press will provide an optimistic outlook and practical solutions to help readers find their way through life’s challenges.” Acquisitions for the imprint will be headed by Brilliance’s associate publisher, Gary Krebs, who edited Bowen’s book and who will split his time between New York and Brilliance's Grand Haven, Mich. office. An Amazon spokesperson said Brilliance is expanding its portfolio because readers are looking to a variety of formats for new works, and "we found the best way to serve our customers is to take the comprehensive approach of being a full-service publisher." Earlier this year, Tantor Audio began publishing print books and e-books to accompany its audiobooks.

Baker & Taylor Teams with Findaway to Launch Acoustik Audiobooks

Baker & Taylor this week announced a partnership with Findaway World (creators of Playaway) to launch Acoustik—a new mobile platform to enable consumers to buy and download digital audiobooks on their mobile devices. Acoustik, a free app that works on both Apple and Android systems, is currently live and available from selected retailers, and will soon be coming to libraries. Officials say the deal will offer consumers access to “nearly 40,000 titles from a wide range of publishers,” and an simple, “intuitive way of downloading and listening” to audiobooks. David Cully, president of Baker & Taylor Retail Markets, said the release of Acoustik gives consumers and retailers and publishers more choice in the delivery of audio content. “Digital audio is growing rapidly,” Cully said, adding that the addition of Acoustik, along with the strong partnerships Baker & Taylor has in place, “will allow more great content to be available at the fingertips of consumers." While a launch date for libraries was not announced, officials said the plan is to launch Acoustik as part of B&T's Axis 360 digital media platform for libraries and their patrons in the coming weeks.
