A New Direction for BTN!


We have some great news for our users! We’ve been approached by Netflix and have been in talks with them the last several months to absorb our P2P based community into their infrastructure. We are pleased to announce that these talks have gone well and Netflix will be acquiring BTN in the following weeks! This merging of services will allow our users to stream their TV shows through the tracker rather than having to download them and our users will soon be able to access Netflix’s large library of TV shows and films.

Netflix was interested in our decentralized approach to sharing to help accommodate their growing need for bandwidth due to streaming, especially as the service moves to a more wide adoption of 4K streaming. Using a tracker to stream instead of a central location means that the service will be able to handle more and more requests without having to put undue strain on their servers.

We’re still finalizing plans and pricing information for our users, but there are talks to allow users to buy their memberships with lumens (finally a new use for the Lumens Store!) or a discount for current BTN members. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more firm information! We understand you’ll likely have many questions, but please try to hold off on asking them for the moment. We will pass along news as soon as we have it!
