Transcoding is the process of taking a video or audio file and changing it to a different format or bitrate.


Mind you this isn't as cut and dry as the definition gives. We are referring to video or audio files that are already compressed. This includes encoding a video that has a source that isn't a DVD,Blu-Ray or a MPEG2 source. For audio that means anything that isn't uncompressed audio.


We haven't enforced this in the past so all torrents before March 11th 2015 are exempt from this. If you have a file you'd like to upload that is transcoded, you need to open a ticket and staff will either approve or deny. This rule was put in place to ensure we are getting the best possible quality. This does not affect webrips or web-dl which are different.
